Sep 29, 2010 (CIDRAP News) – Speaking at a Senate committee hearing today, US Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said a cell-based seasonal influenza vaccine from Novartis could be on the US market in time for the 2011-12 flu season.
With the help of a $487 million HHS contract, Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics recently built a facility in Holly Springs, N.C., to make cell-based flu vaccines and vaccine adjuvants. No cell-based flu vaccine has yet been licensed in the United States, though such vaccines have been approved in Europe.
Referring to the Novartis facility, Sebelius said, "It's scheduled to be online to apply for licensing early in 2011 for cell-based seasonal vaccine, and a licensed vaccine is expected to be marketed for the 2011-112 flu season."
But in response to a query from CIDRAP News after the hearing, Novartis officials took a more cautious stance.
"Novartis opened its Holly Springs, North Carolina, facility in November 2009 in collaboration with the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)," the company said in a statement. "Novartis plans to file for cell-based vaccine technology in the US in the first half of 2011, but approval is contingent upon FDA [Food and Drug Administration] review, so we cannot confirm when cell-based vaccines would be on the market in the US."
When the North Carolina plant was unveiled in 2009, Novartis officials said the earliest it could start making flu vaccine was 2011, with full commercial production expected in 2013.
Sebelius made her comments at a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Committee's Labor-HHS Subcommittee on "Defending against public health threats." The session focused on HHS efforts to develop medical countermeasures against biological weapons.
Cell culture technology—growing vaccine viruses in mammalian cells, such as canine kidney cells—is regarded as more flexible and somewhat faster than the decades-old method of growing flu vaccines in chicken eggs. Cell-culture technology is used to make certain other vaccines, such as polio and rabies.
Commenting on Sebelius's prediction, Andrew Pavia, MD, of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), who also spoke at the hearing, told CIDRAP News afterward, "It seems optimistic to me, but if true it's good news." Pavia, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at the University of Utah, chairs the IDSA's Pandemic Influenza Task Force.
Pavia commented further, "As best we can tell, FDA has already given Novartis a reasonably clear signal of what it's going to take to get [the vaccine] licensed, and it's reasonably similar to regular flu vaccine. They were going to be using fairly similar potency assays and demonstrating efficacy in clinical trials."
Sebelius also told the subcommittee that a recombinant flu vaccine from Connecticut-based Protein Sciences Corp. may also be licensed in time for the 2011-12 flu season. The company's application for approval of the vaccine is currently being reviewed by the FDA, according to the firm's Web site. The vaccine is made by using a baculovirus to grow the antigen in insect cells.
Sebelius talked about the Novartis and Protein Sciences vaccines in response to questions from Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, chair of the subcommittee. He said the subcommittee has provided $15 billion for pandemic flu preparedness since 2006. That includes the money for the Novartis facility, he said, but "I hear it won't operate until 2013."
"There's no cell-based vaccine in the US, but they're currently licensed in Europe," Harkin said. "What's the problem with getting them licensed in the US if they're licensed in Europe and why aren't we further along?"
In response, Sebelius noted that HHS has stockpiled a vaccine for H5N1 avian influenza, before discussing the Novartis and Protein Sciences vaccines.
In her prepared statement to the panel, Sebelius discussed five initiatives that were described in a major HHS review, released in August, of civilian biodefense efforts. The review was prompted by the delays in production of the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine and by the general perception that countermeasures development has been slow.
The HHS initiatives include, among others, improving the FDA's science capabilities, establishing advanced development and manufacturing centers for medical countermeasures, and speeding flu vaccine production by providing seed strains that grow better and improving sterility testing methods.
Sebelius said HHS released a draft solicitation this month for the proposed centers for advanced development and manufacturing and plans to issue the final request for proposals by the end of the year. The intention is that each center could produce more than one type of countermeasure, she reported.
Eric Rose, MD, co-chair of the Alliance for Biosecurity and head of a biotechnology company, defended the record of HHS's Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), the agency charged with developing biodefense tools.
"The BARDA advanced development program is bearing fruit," said Rose, who is CEO of Siga Technologies, which is developing an antiviral for smallpox. "While many have criticized the slow pace, our experience is that the program is leading to important novel countermeasures less than 7 years" after it was launched. "There is a trickle, but the pipeline is beginning to flow."
Pavia said the IDSA wants to see the countermeasures program get a consistent stream of funding. "We support at least $1.7 billion for BARDA for new countermeasures in 2011," he said. He told CIDRAP News this amount is well above what the Obama administration is proposing.
Considerable discussion at the hearing focused on the FDA's heavy workload and its ability to evaluate new countermeasures.
Harkin predicted that a food safety reform bill will soon pass, which will increase the demands on the FDA. "We're going to ask them to do more, and we're not going to give them the funds or personnel to do that," he said. "It seems to me that FDA has so much on their plate that they can't give this the kind of focus it needs." He suggested that the FDA may need some restructuring.
Rose had a specific recommendation: "I propose that FDA create a Center for Biodefense, like CDER [the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research] and CBER [the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research]. I think having a full-blown center where there's a leader responsible for signing off would be valuable."

Do you resent the government for enforcing Obamacare or raising your taxes? Write about it in an email or talk about it on the phone and you could be placed under surveillance as a potential terrorist, if frightening new technology being shopped to law enforcement agencies is implemented.
Forget pre-crime and get ready for face-crime, Big Brother is set to unleash a new wave of shockingly invasive and Orwellian technology on the American people if a recent symposium in Hamburg New York is anything to go by. Federal agencies, police departments and others were all in attendance to see a demonstration of a system that trawls phone conversations, emails and instant messages to detect “resentment toward government,” alerting authorities to potential “terrorists” who are then placed under surveillance.
The technology was demonstrated to law enforcement officials, mental health professionals, and military representatives at a recent International First Responder-Military Symposium held at Hilbert College.
“A Swiss professor working with a Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientist who heads the Mind Machine Project there outlined how this program operates through computerized scanning of phone calls and electronic messages sent through e-mail and social networking mechanisms,” reports the Buffalo News.
The system works by detecting “resentment in conversations through measurements in decibels and other voice biometrics,” more specifically the emotional spikes that characterize “hatred and deep resentment toward government.”
“As for written transmissions scrutinized by the computer program, it can detect the same patterns of fixation on specified subjects,” states the report.
Once an individual has been identified as harboring “resentment toward government,” the information can be “passed along to authorities so surveillance can begin.”
Besides law enforcement applications, the program is also designed to aid mental health professionals to help “war veterans” become emotionally stable, chillingly implying that distrust or hatred of government, which was hailed by the founding fathers as a vital virtue, is now considered a mental illness.
Of course, this technology completely violates the 4th amendment, but by introducing it as a tool to fight terrorism, authorities hope to skirt around the issue – the problem being that, as we have exhaustively documented, the federal government now sees any political activity whatsoever, be it anti-war protesters on the left, or anti-big government activists on the right, as potential domestic terrorists.
The technology is rationalized by its adherents, who claim that it will help stop terrorists in their tracks, while also being used against ‘troubled veterans and first responders’.
However, the introduction of a program that closely resembles George Orwell’s “facecrime” in 1984 has little to do with fighting extremist Muslims hiding in caves in central Asia, this is all about targeting the American people with total panopticon-style surveillance, while also creating a chilling atmosphere and reminding people that their every conversation, instant message or email is being scanned by super-computers for any sign of extremism or “resentment toward government”.
As we have seen from the MIAC report, the spying case in Pennsylvania, and a host of others in recent years, the federal government defines “terrorist propaganda” as any material critical of the state, therefore any dissent against Big Brother in a phone conversation or an email would automatically trigger the new technology.
This is not only a constitution killer, it represents a hammer blow to free speech. The Internet as a forum of open discourse and free exchange of ideas will be fundamentally damaged if people live in constant fear of being raided by the feds at any minute because they sounded off about the government in an e mail or a posting on a comment board.
Of course, with distrust towards the state touching all time highs, there are millions of Americans who “harbor hatred and deep resentment toward government,” but that doesn’t mean they plan on bombing federal buildings.
The technofascism blog dug up a couple of quotes from George Orwell’s 1984 that almost precisely describe the exact same technology being used in the legendary dystopia about a totalitarian society that constantly hounds, harasses, and surreptitiously spies on its citizens.
“It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself–anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. In any case, to wear an improper expression on your face…; was itself a punishable offense. There was even a word for it in Newspeak: facecrime…”

Rather than an improper facial expression or nervous tic, which was more within the purview of the equally ludicrous “gait analysis” division of Admiral John Poindexter’s Total Information Office, a program that claimed to be able to identify terrorists by the way they walk, the facecrime technology defines “abnormality” as being critical of the authorities, a frightening throwback to the Soviet psikhushkas — mental hospitals — which were used by the state as prisons in order to isolate political prisoners, discredit their ideas, and break them physically and mentally.
Indeed, the establishment media has intensified its dissemination of talking points that attempt to categorize distrust of authority as a mental disorder.
Although it survives under a number of different names with private sector funding, Total Information Awareness was mothballed by Congress in 2003 after widespread criticism that it would lead to the implementation of a “mass surveillance system”. Facecrime goes a step further, it not only creates a mass surveillance system of all our communications, it also corrodes and corrupts people’s confidence in being able to exercise their first amendment right to express “hatred and resentment toward government,” without being harassed and targeted as domestic terrorists.
Facecrime technology is illegal, immoral, anti-American and something that needs to be ditched permanently if the United States and indeed any free country is to heed George Orwell’s warning and resist the descent into totalitarianism.

USA TODAY broke this news when they published a news story titled: “Navy Plans Could Affect More Marine Mammals” on August 5, 2010 [1]. According to USA Today news article, backed up by federal documents from the U.S. Navy and NOAA: “…The Navy plans to increase ocean warfare exercises, conduct more sonar tests and expand coastal training…activities that could injure hundreds of thousands of marine mammals or disturb their habitats…”
In a letter to NOAA, dated June 19, 2009, U.S. Senator Feinstein and U.S. Congressman Henry Waxman stated: “...In many regions, the Navy plans to increase the number of its exercises or expand the areas in which they may occur, and virtually every coastal state will be affected. Some exercises may occur in the nation's most biologically sensitive marine habitats, including
National Marine Sanctuaries and breeding habitat for the endangered North Atlantic right whale. In all, the Navy anticipates more than 2.3 million takes (significant disruptions in
marine mammal foraging, breeding, and other essential behaviors) per year, or 11.7 million takes over the course of a five-year permit...” [2]
The U.S. Navy is expanding their 5-Year Warfare Training in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho (NWTRC). The Final U.S. Navy Environmental Impact Statement (EIS/OEIS), was released on September 10, 2010, and now is available for review, public comment, and protests by going to the U.S. Navy website [9]. The thirty day public comment period ends on October 11, 2010. File your protests and comments today with the U.S. Navy and NOAA. Let your elected officials know that U.S. Congressional hearings are needed now to protect all ocean areas, 11.7 million marine mammals, the fishing and tourism industries, our national marine sanctuaries, migrating whales, manatees, fish, their ocean habitats and food supplies, and public health.
There are many U.S. Navy 5-Year warfare testing areas, each with its own separate Environmental Impact Statement, in the Pacific, the Atlantic, and the Gulf of Mexico. The filing dates for each one is different. What is the same for each of them is that they are mostly redundant in nature, testing the same types of live bombs, missiles, sonar, and other warfare methods.
Some U.S. Navy warfare testing ranges, like the Southern California Range Complex, 5-Year warfare testing are currently underway, unleashing their live warfare testing in the Pacific Ocean along the Southern California coastline. Unless we take action today more of these warfare testing ranges will be approved and unleashed over land areas and in every ocean environment as permits are granted for the “taking” of marine mammals by NOAA.
With respect to military readiness activities, the MMPA defines ‘‘harassment’’ as: “…(i) any act that injures or has the significant potential to injure a marine mammal or marine mammal stock in the wild [Level A Harassment]; or (ii) any act that disturbs or is likely to disturb a marine mammal or marine mammal stock in the wild by causing disruption of natural behavioral patterns, including, but not limited to, migration, surfacing, nursing, breeding, feeding, or sheltering, to a point where such behavioral patterns are abandoned or significantly altered [Level B Harassment]…training activities may expose some of the marine mammals present in the area to sound from various mid-frequency and high-frequency active tactical sonar sources or to pressure from underwater detonations..” [3]

Many of these U.S. Navy 5-Year Warfare testing range programs are ready to be implemented in the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic, and the Pacific in the coming months. With the tragic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico threatening local economies, unemployment rising, the fishing and tourism industry in disarray, and the oil and Corexit pollution threatening this environment and human health for years, the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force are now ready to start another assault on this area using multifaceted warfare testing experiments. NOAA is expected to issue permits to allow the U.S. Navy to “take” marine mammals in the near future in the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic and the Pacific [6-7].
There are no real mitigation measures that would protect our oceans from these 5-Year Warfare Testing programs. NOAA’s comprehensive review is particularly important given that the Navy has estimated shipboard visual monitoring for marine mammals, the most commonly employed sonar mitigation measure, to be effective only 9% of the time. In addition, the Navy has admitted that they will not stop warfare activities when ocean migrations are underway. (U.S. Navy Final EIS Volume II Page G113 U.S. Navy Answer to public comment question: “…No, the Navy does not plan on suspending sonar operations during the gray whale migration seasons…”)
There are too many redundant warfare testing programs (each one with a separate E.I.S.), which may be extended without public oversight or consent once implemented. Fish, birds, marine life habitats, human health, toxic chemical usage, threats from oil spills, and bomb blasts that could trigger earthquakes or create underwater fissures are allegedly not part of the NOAA (NMFS), items of investigation at this time.
NOAA, in the past few months, since the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, has admitted that they know little about the marine environment in this underwater area. Thus, when NOAA (National Marine Fisheries Service), had previously approved the offshore oil drilling without appropriate safeguards for marine life. Now NOAA intends to issue more permits to the U.S. Navy and Air Force for warfare testing programs, which may exacerbate the current environmental problems in the Gulf of Mexico, without assessing current and future impacts of Gulf oil spills. In addition, NOAA will shortly be approving additional Navy Warfare Testing in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Our oceans and land areas, along with all inhabitants, are to be used as warfare test guinea pigs without public consent, debate, U.S. Congressional hearings or substantial public oversight.
We do know that many toxic chemicals are found in all ocean areas along with numerous dead zones [12-13]. According to a New York Times article on July 20, 2010: “…The Gulf’s floor is littered with bombs, chemical weapons and other ordnance dumped in the middle of last century, even in areas busy with drilling, and miles outside of designated dumping zones, according to experts who work on deepwater hazard surveys…” [14]
In many ocean areas, including the Gulf of Mexico, military dumping of arsenals, in the past, which now reside on our ocean bottom areas and contain toxic chemicals, could be disturbed by these bomb blasts and other warfare testing exercises [14]. The Navy Warfare Testing Program will, according to their E.I.S. documents: “…utilize mid- and high frequency active sonar sources and explosive detonations. These sonar and explosive sources will be utilized during Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW) Tracking Exercises, Mine Avoidance Training, Extended Echo Ranging and Improved Extended Echo Ranging (EER/IEER) events, Missile Exercises, Gunnery Exercises, Bombing Exercises, Sinking Exercises, and Mine Warfare Training…” [8]
The “Navy Warfare Chemical Menu” will contaminate our air, water, the ocean, and soil. Their list of toxic chemicals is a long one as noted in the Navy E.I.S: Red phosphorus, cadmium, lead, and a whole host of chemicals known to be toxic not only to man, but to marine life and fish, are being served up on this menu. In addition, highly classified weapons systems are also to be used during these 5-Year Warfare Testing Experiments over both land areas and in all of our oceans.
Many of these 5-Year Navy Warfare programs are to be implemented in the near future and several have already been approved by NOAA and are underway in places like Southern California. On May 31, 2009, KTVU Oakland / San Francisco Channel 2 News, aired a Special Report on expansion of US Navy Warfare Training Programs into Northern California, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho [10]. This 5-Year Warfare Testing Expansion will implemented when the final Navy Environmental Impact Statement is finalized this summer by the U.S. Navy unless the public objects. NOAA is expected to issue a permit for the “taking” of marine mammals in these areas [8].
Concerned citizens in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California, along with citizens across the United States are protesting this action by the United States government and the United States Navy. Almost all of our elected representatives are silent when it comes to opposing this disastrous program. The major news media, with only two known exceptions, has elected not to cover this story leaving coverage to a few small newspapers located in remote areas. The only television station that has covered this issue is KTVU Channel 2 Investigation U.S. Navy Warfare Testing Program on May 18, 2009 [10].
Our U.S. Senators and members of the U.S. House have refused, so far, to postpone these disastrous “takings” or hold U.S. Congressional Hearings while pretending to be ocean environment friendly in their re-election speeches. In addition to refusing to be interviewed by the press with regard to this issue our elected officials are refusing to hold U.S. Congressional hearings in order to protect our marine mammals, fish, birds, endangered species, and human health.
The U.S. Congress, NOAA, and the U.S. Navy are ignoring Chapter 5 of the April 2010, Report of the NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE – PRESIDENT’S CANCER PANEL “Exposure to Contaminants and Other Hazards from Military Sources” [8]. We do know that the U.S. Navy and the Air Force will be using toxic chemicals and other contaminants in the Gulf of Mexico and other ocean areas. We can’t afford to go forward with new forms of ocean and land contamination from these 5-Year Warfare Testing Experiments until these issues are examined. Hearings should be held by the U.S. Congress in order to protect human and ocean health and the health of our marine mammals and our coastal fishing industry.

It is time for all of us to step up and say “NO” to the U.S. Navy and Air Force War on our oceans. With the recent Gulf of Mexico oil spill all we need now is to subject this area and the people who live there to another ecological disaster. Expanding and initiating warfare testing in more areas of the Pacific, the Atlantic, and the Gulf of Mexico, will also spell disaster for our marine mammals and fish as well. We do not elect to be the guinea pigs for land test experiments or have our oceans used for massive warfare testing. Alzheimer's is a mind-wasting disease for which there are few treatments and no cure, and which affects 26 million people around the world."
Absolute Best Way to Treat Alzheimer's
Believe me, I don't mention these statistics to frighten you, but to warn you, because this is a bugger of a disease to beat when you have it.
You want to avoid this disease for sure, and the BEST way to "treat" it is to lead a lifestyle that will prevent it in the first place. And I can confidently assure you that this is possible.
I have absolutely no doubt that I will successfully avoid this disease as my lifestyle prevents it.
It is important to understand that dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, is NOT a normal part of aging, which makes the steady rise in dementia cases all that more frustrating.
Clearly, determining the underlying causes of these brain disorders is imperative if we're going to slow down or reverse this troubling trend.
In this latest PLoS study, extremely high doses of B vitamins were successful in limiting brain shrinkage, which is a common precursor of Alzheimer's disease.
According to one of the co-authors:
"This is a very dramatic and striking result. It's much more than we could have predicted… It is our hope that this simple and safe treatment will delay development of Alzheimer's in many people who suffer from mild memory problems."
This is good news, but there are certain factors that must be considered here, and I believe there are other, more effective strategies to combat Alzheimer's, which I'll review at the end of this article.
B Vitamins for Optimal Brain Health
B vitamins are indeed important for optimal brain health, and may even serve as an adjunct to "emergency" medicine in some cases. For example, vitamin B3 (niacin) may be helpful in your neurological recovery after you've experienced a stroke.
In a previous study on the impact of B12 on brain wasting, seniors with lower vitamin B12 levels at the start of the study also had a greater decrease in brain volume at the end.
Those with the lowest B12 levels had a six-fold greater rate of brain volume loss compared with those who had the highest levels!
Interestingly, none of the participants were actually deficient in vitamin B12 -- they just had low levels within a normal range.
This goes to show that "normal" is not necessarily the same as "optimal" when you're talking about nutrients. You don't have to be clearly deficient in order to experience a decline in health. The study's lead researcher commented on this, saying:
"Our results suggest that rather than maintaining one's B12 at a level that is just above the cut-off for deficiency, it might be prudent to aim to keep it higher up than normal range."
This is really important to hear, as most people would assume that if their levels are within the normal range, they're fine. In reality, you cannot always count on the "normal" reference ranges that come with your blood tests.
Vitamin D is another example of a test that lists "normal" ranges that are nowhere near adequate to keep you healthy.
Here, in this latest PloS study, the participants received very high doses of B vitamins. The vitamin pills, which are so potent you can only obtain them with a prescription, contained:
•800 micrograms (mcg) folic acid -- US RDA is 400 mcg/day
•500 mcg B12 (cyanocobalamin) – US RDA is only 2.4 mcg/day
•20 mg B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride) -- US RDA 1.3-1.5 mg/day
As one of the researchers stated, this is actually "a drug-, not a vitamin intervention."
The study was based on the presumption that by controlling the levels of homocysteine, an amino acid, you might be able to reduce the amount of brain shrinkage, which tends to precipitate Alzheimer's.
High levels of homocysteine are linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's, as well as heart disease, and stroke.
B vitamins are homocysteine suppressant, and vitamin B12 in particular is known as essential for neurological function.
It seemed to work. After two years, those who had received the vitamin B regimen suffered significantly less brain shrinkage compared to those who had received a placebo.
According to Reuters,
"People who had the highest levels of homocysteine at the start of the trial benefited the most from the treatment, with their brains shrinking at half the rate of those on the placebo.
Although the trial was not designed to measure cognitive ability, the researchers found those people who had lowest rates of shrinkage had the highest scores in mental tests."
What Do We Know about the Causes of Alzheimer's?
Some believe that we need to wait for the ultimate placebo controlled randomized trial to "prove" an approach before recommending it. I believe that is an absolutely foolhardy approach when we are in the midst of an emergency.
People are losing their minds at an alarming and increasing rate, and we need to act now.
So it makes sense to use natural approaches, which are essentially without any side effects and are very inexpensive. Many of them, like exercise, only cost you time.
So, what do we actually know?
Well, we know that risk factors for brain atrophy include high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol, and as already mentioned, brain shrinkage typically precipitates the more serious forms of dementia. If you have followed this newsletter you know we are constantly reviewing lifestyle changes to address these risk factors.

The exact causes and mechanisms behind Alzheimer's disease are still not entirely clear, but the disease has been linked to a number of other health conditions, nutritional deficiencies, and environmental toxins.
Health conditions associated with Alzheimer's:
•Obesity, especially increased belly fat
•Insulin resistance and diabetes – Diabetics have up to 65 percent higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease
•Elevated uric acid levels
•Thyroid dysfunction
•Intracellular T3 (immune system cells) deficiency
•Heart disease
Nutritional deficiencies associated with Alzheimers:
•Insufficient omega-3 fats
•Elevated homocysteine levels due to vitamin B6, B12 and folate deficiencies
•Vitamin K deficiency
Environmental toxins associated with Alzheimer's:
•Aluminum toxicity
•Mercury toxicity
One of the factors that I believe are among the most important of all is insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance and/or diabetes is a major factor in elevating your blood pressure, as well as for gaining excess weight; elevating your lipids, blood sugar and uric acid levels; and developing heart disease.
If you are producing too much insulin, you're going to be at risk for all of these health problems—along with brain atrophy and Alzheimer's as well.
Yes, once you begin to see the circular cause and effect relationships between these common health problems, it becomes easier to understand how you can prevent nearly ALL disease, including something as tricky as Alzheimer's.
Special Notes About Vitamin B12
Should you decide to boost your B12 intake with a supplement, please be aware that oral or sublingual B12 tablets do not work very well. Injectable B12 is considered the gold standard, however sublingual sprays are just as effective as the injectable versions and far more convenient and less painful to use.
You also need to beware of the fact that certain common drugs can cause you to become deficient in B12.
Prilosec (omeprazole), for example, has been clearly shown to decrease B12 absorption. This might be because it decreases your production of intrinsic factor, which is needed for proper B12 absorption.
Other medications may have similar adverse effects as well.
How to Prevent Alzheimer's Without Drugs
As you probably know, the primary treatment strategy employed by conventional medicine is drugs. Unfortunately, drugs such as Aricept, Exelon and Reminyl, may do more harm than good.
This class of drugs is known to provoke slower heart rates, significantly increasing your chances of getting a permanent pacemaker, as well as increasing your risk of hip fracture.
Interestingly, studies have demonstrated that ginko biloba is effective in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. One study published in 2006 found that the herb works just as well as Aricept (donepezil) in treating mild or moderate Alzheimer's-related dementia.
It's important to realize that ginko biloba will not cure the underlying problem, however but it is certainly safer to use compared to conventional drugs.
Fortunately, there are simple ways to significantly reduce your chances of getting Alzheimer's.
While effectively preventing associated health risks, such as obesity, insulin resistance, high blood pressure and heart disease, these simple lifestyle changes can also help keep your brain in optimal working order well past your 60's.
•Optimize your vitamin D levels through safe sun exposure, a safe tanning bed and/or vitamin D3 supplements.
•Eat a nutritious diet, rich in folate. Ideally you'll want to design your diet around your nutritional type. Everyone, however, regardless of nutritional type will want to avoid fructose as much as possible.
Strict vegetarian diets have been shown to increase your Alzheimer's risk, whereas diets high in omega-3's lower your risk. However, vegetables, without question, are your best form of folate, and we should all eat plenty of fresh raw veggies every day.
•Eat plenty of high-quality omega-3 fats, such as krill oil. I recommend avoiding most fish, however, because although fish is naturally high in omega-3, most fish stocks are now severely contaminated with mercury.
High intake of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA helps by preventing cell damage caused by Alzheimer's disease, thereby slowing down its progression, and lowering your risk of developing the disorder. Researchers have also said DHA "dramatically reduces the impact of the Alzheimer's gene."
•Keep your fasting insulin levels below 3. There is no question that insulin resistance is one of the most pervasive influences on brain damage, as it contributes massively to inflammation, which will prematurely degenerate your brain.
•Avoid and remove mercury from your body. Dental amalgam fillings are one of the major sources of mercury, however you should be healthy prior to having them removed.
Once you have adjusted to following the diet described in my optimized nutrition plan, you can follow the mercury detox protocol and then find a biological dentist to have your amalgams removed. Please be careful as you could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire like I did if you see a conventional dentist to do the exchange. ONLY see a high quality biologically trained dentist, or your health could be seriously affected.
•Avoid aluminum, such as antiperspirants, non-stick cookware, etc.
•Exercise regularly. According to one study, the odds of developing Alzheimer's were nearly quadrupled in people who were less active during their leisure time, between the ages of 20 and 60. I would strongly recommend reviewing the Peak Fitness Technique for my specific recommendations.
•Avoid flu vaccinations as they contain both mercury and aluminum!
•Eat plenty of blueberries. Wild blueberries, which have high anthocyanin and antioxidant content, are known to guard against Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases.
•Challenge your mind daily. Mental stimulation, especially learning something new, such as learning to play an instrument or a new language, is associated with a decreased risk of Alzheimer's. Researchers suspect that mental challenge helps to build up your brain, making it less susceptible to the lesions associated with Alzheimer's disease.
•Avoid anticholinergic drugs. Drugs that block acetylcholine, a nervous system neurotransmitter, have been shown to increase your risk of dementia. These drugs include certain night-time pain relievers, antihistamines, sleep aids, certain antidepressants, medications to control incontinence, and certain narcotic pain relievers.
A recent study found that those who took drugs classified as 'definite anticholinergics' had a four times higher incidence of cognitive impairment. In those who were not carriers of the specific gene, APOE ε4 allele which I mentioned earlier in this article, the risk was over seven times higher.
Regularly taking two of these drugs further increased the risk of cognitive impairment.

One of the factors that I believe are among the most important of all is insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance and/or diabetes is a major factor in elevating your blood pressure, as well as for gaining excess weight; elevating your lipids, blood sugar and uric acid levels; and developing heart disease.
If you are producing too much insulin, you're going to be at risk for all of these health problems—along with brain atrophy and Alzheimer's as well.
Yes, once you begin to see the circular cause and effect relationships between these common health problems, it becomes easier to understand how you can prevent nearly ALL disease, including something as tricky as Alzheimer's.
Special Notes About Vitamin B12
Should you decide to boost your B12 intake with a supplement, please be aware that oral or sublingual B12 tablets do not work very well. Injectable B12 is considered the gold standard, however sublingual sprays are just as effective as the injectable versions and far more convenient and less painful to use.
You also need to beware of the fact that certain common drugs can cause you to become deficient in B12.
Prilosec (omeprazole), for example, has been clearly shown to decrease B12 absorption. This might be because it decreases your production of intrinsic factor, which is needed for proper B12 absorption.
Other medications may have similar adverse effects as well.
How to Prevent Alzheimer's Without Drugs
As you probably know, the primary treatment strategy employed by conventional medicine is drugs. Unfortunately, drugs such as Aricept, Exelon and Reminyl, may do more harm than good.
This class of drugs is known to provoke slower heart rates, significantly increasing your chances of getting a permanent pacemaker, as well as increasing your risk of hip fracture.
Interestingly, studies have demonstrated that ginko biloba is effective in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. One study published in 2006 found that the herb works just as well as Aricept (donepezil) in treating mild or moderate Alzheimer's-related dementia.
It's important to realize that ginko biloba will not cure the underlying problem, however but it is certainly safer to use compared to conventional drugs.
Fortunately, there are simple ways to significantly reduce your chances of getting Alzheimer's.
While effectively preventing associated health risks, such as obesity, insulin resistance, high blood pressure and heart disease, these simple lifestyle changes can also help keep your brain in optimal working order well past your 60's.
•Optimize your vitamin D levels through safe sun exposure, a safe tanning bed and/or vitamin D3 supplements.
•Eat a nutritious diet, rich in folate. Ideally you'll want to design your diet around your nutritional type. Everyone, however, regardless of nutritional type will want to avoid fructose as much as possible.
Strict vegetarian diets have been shown to increase your Alzheimer's risk, whereas diets high in omega-3's lower your risk. However, vegetables, without question, are your best form of folate, and we should all eat plenty of fresh raw veggies every day.
•Eat plenty of high-quality omega-3 fats, such as krill oil. I recommend avoiding most fish, however, because although fish is naturally high in omega-3, most fish stocks are now severely contaminated with mercury.
High intake of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA helps by preventing cell damage caused by Alzheimer's disease, thereby slowing down its progression, and lowering your risk of developing the disorder. Researchers have also said DHA "dramatically reduces the impact of the Alzheimer's gene."
•Keep your fasting insulin levels below 3. There is no question that insulin resistance is one of the most pervasive influences on brain damage, as it contributes massively to inflammation, which will prematurely degenerate your brain.
•Avoid and remove mercury from your body. Dental amalgam fillings are one of the major sources of mercury, however you should be healthy prior to having them removed.
Once you have adjusted to following the diet described in my optimized nutrition plan, you can follow the mercury detox protocol and then find a biological dentist to have your amalgams removed. Please be careful as you could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire like I did if you see a conventional dentist to do the exchange. ONLY see a high quality biologically trained dentist, or your health could be seriously affected.
•Avoid aluminum, such as antiperspirants, non-stick cookware, etc.
•Exercise regularly. According to one study, the odds of developing Alzheimer's were nearly quadrupled in people who were less active during their leisure time, between the ages of 20 and 60. I would strongly recommend reviewing the Peak Fitness Technique for my specific recommendations.
•Avoid flu vaccinations as they contain both mercury and aluminum!
•Eat plenty of blueberries. Wild blueberries, which have high anthocyanin and antioxidant content, are known to guard against Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases.
•Challenge your mind daily. Mental stimulation, especially learning something new, such as learning to play an instrument or a new language, is associated with a decreased risk of Alzheimer's. Researchers suspect that mental challenge helps to build up your brain, making it less susceptible to the lesions associated with Alzheimer's disease.
•Avoid anticholinergic drugs. Drugs that block acetylcholine, a nervous system neurotransmitter, have been shown to increase your risk of dementia. These drugs include certain night-time pain relievers, antihistamines, sleep aids, certain antidepressants, medications to control incontinence, and certain narcotic pain relievers.
A recent study found that those who took drugs classified as 'definite anticholinergics' had a four times higher incidence of cognitive impairment. In those who were not carriers of the specific gene, APOE ε4 allele which I mentioned earlier in this article, the risk was over seven times higher.
Regularly taking two of these drugs further increased the risk of cognitive impairment.

Another tragedy

Dear Dr. Cannell:
On June 3, 2010, my five and a half week old daughter was introduced to “child protection, who diagnosed her as being a victim of child abuse. I had brought my new born daughter to a general hospital, after she woke up screaming in pain when I moved her arm. Upon multiple x-rays we found out that she had a fracture in her right arm that had a transverse configuration, without any evidence of external injury (we later learned that a transverse configuration is typical in a pathologically fragile bone). Not understanding how this could have happened to my daughter, I had no explanation for the injury.
Apparently because of the injury and our inability to explain how it happened, the doctors suspected child abuse and contacted the child abuse team who sent social workers to the hospital to interview us. After several hours of questioning, they transferred us to another hospital where we were immediately admitted to the child protection department. After further x-rays and bone scans the hospital found multiple micro-fractures throughout my daughter’s body.

My daughter’s initial physical examination revealed an asymptomatic child. She did not have any lesions, rashes, bruises, external swelling, nothing, not a mark on her. Neither hospital conducted a careful assessment of my clinical and social history. They did assess her vitamin D levels which were low-normal, but not mine; they did not question me about my nutrition during pregnancy or my delivery. Neither the hospitals nor the doctors acted in an unbiased and reflective manner or take into consideration the totality of evidence. Instead, without conducting a complete evaluation, they quickly diagnosed my daughter as a victim of child abuse.
On June 4th 2010, my infant daughter was taken out of my care and placed in the foster care system. The State appointed my daughter an attorney, who has become an angel for my daughter and to my family. Thankfully, my daughter’s attorney took her job seriously and set out to determine the truth of what happened to my daughter.
After interviewing me and my family and reading the transcripts of the initial interviews of my boyfriend and I written by the emergency social workers from the hospitals, my daughter’s attorney requested all of the x-rays, bone scans and medical reports from both hospitals.
Her attorney asked several doctors to look at the medical information and give their unbiased, expert opinions but they refused to touch the case because child protection was involved. Thankfully, she finally reached out to Dr. Patrick Barnes, a world-renowned neuroradiologist who agreed to look at my daughter’s case. He referred her to Dr. David Ayoub a diagnostic Radiologist out of Chicago IL, to look at the x-rays and bone scans specifically. After an initial review of the films, Dr. Ayoub proceeded to acquire every medical record in existence on my daughter including my prenatal records and ultrasounds, my daughter’s delivery and pediatric records and he had me fill out a medical questionnaire survey.
After careful and thorough review of all medical reports he saw that my daughter was suffering from infantile rickets in the state of healing, and that her bones were in a fragile state. He also stated that my daughter’s skull showed poor mineralization along the sutures and large areas or poor mineralization in the center portion of the skull plates. In addition the parietal skull was flattened.
As Dr. Ayoud was evaluating my daughters medical reports, he asked my daughter’s attorney to suggest that I go see Dr. Michael Holick. Upon his full evaluation of me, Dr. Holick found me to be suffering from osteomalacia, essentially the adult form of rickets.
This process took two months to complete and now, because of the lack of follow through by child protection doctors, my daughter has been without one of the things most critical to her young development, a caring and loving mother. And I have been robbed of some of the most precious moments I could have had with her.
Because it took so long to get the proper diagnosis and after being in foster care for almost two months, the child protection people then decided to place my daughter with her biological father who abandoned me when I was 2 months pregnant. He had not seen or even asked about his daughter until he was contacted by them on June 4th, almost six weeks after her birth.
It has now been 3 months since I have had my precious baby girl. Even with two outstanding doctor reports from two nationally distinguished doctors, the child protection people do not seem to care that my daughter was taken from her mother in error. Because they are essentially a law unto themselves, they have no legal obligation to take this new medical information about my daughter and myself and do anything with it.
It would take pages to explain the twisted system that child protection is, because the system is set up in such a way to always protect child protection; there actually isn't a forum to bring this new information up in front of a judge unless the whole case goes to a trial, which would be months away.
The child protection agencies were set up to protect children, but where are the laws to protect the children and families from these agencies. What do you do when the child protection doctors and social workers are the ones responsible for neglect or abuse?
Still to this day neither child protection or my daughters biological father have taken my daughter to get looked at by a specialist, to make sure that she is getting what she needs to fix her vitamin D deficiency. (Thankfully, Dr. Ayoub assures me that because she has been fed formula since she was removed from my custody, I exclusively breast-fed her for the first 5 weeks, another risk factor for rickets, she is most likely safe from further fractures.) I am not allowed to get any medical information about my daughter as her bio dad has temporary custody. He is only allowing me to see my now 4-month-old daughter one day a week, at a supervised visitation center. In what kind of world does any of this seem right?
I will get her back; it will just take some time. I just hope that other families and children can be saved by being made aware of this epidemic of infantile rickets. Health care providers need to be educated on these issues. Most doctors are not taught to know what to look for when they are dealing with infantile rickets or other metabolic bone diseases. And when neonatal rickets are in the stages of healing the vitamin D and calcium levels are usually normal or high. That's why it's important to test, everything. They need to do their due diligence in ruling out every medical possibility before making their diagnoses. They need to help save families, not break them up.

Thank God that the court appointed an open-minded attorney to represent your child; that seldom happens in these cases. Usually the attorneys appointed to represent the children are the most rabid of the lot. Also, thank God you found Dr. Ayoub and Dr. Barnes. As you say, the child abuse authorities are a law unto themselves, they do not have to read your reports, file them in your child’s folder, or give your child back. Now that you have two experts and know what is going on, perhaps you may not feel so alone, feel like everyone thinks you are a child abuser, which is the usual outcome in these cases.
A few months ago I discussed an absolutely frightening study. Basically, the study found that about 1/4 of all otherwise normal infants have evidence of infantile rickets while they are still in the womb. If these infants were x-rayed right after birth, I suspect they would be found to have multiple fractures from the very real trauma of coming through the birth canal. That is, it is likely that tens of thousands of infants are being sent home from the hospital with multiple fractures because no one has ever done a study looking for asymptomatic fractures.

As an aside, the editorial that accompanied this study missed the point. Instead of asking for studies to discover what percentage of infants will have broken bones at birth and thus, how many parents are falsely accused of child abuse due to this tragedy, the authors of the editorial simply asked for more money for scientists.

The “we care about kids more than you do” child abuse organizations are simply feeding at the trough of the child abuse industry. “According to the late Dr. Richard Gardner, the reason for increasing false allegations can be rationally explained. “There’s a complex network of social workers, mental health professionals, and law enforcement officials that actually encourages charges of child abuse — whether they are reasonable or not.”
Dr. Gardner was referring to the fact that the Mondale Act of 1974 is responsible for the dramatic increase in child abuse charges because it affords full liability protection for the child abuse industry. They can do the most egregious and wanton things to the children in their care, and their parents, without fear that they will face civil liability charges. The Mondale Act indemnified the child abuse industry, and populated it with people whose livelihoods depend on bringing more and more allegations into the system. Your daughter is simply putting food on someone’s plate.
The child abuse industry was behind the epidemic of “recovered memories” of child abuse in the 1990s and howled when judges started returning malpractice verdicts against recovered memory doctors, which quickly dried up that particular child abuse industry feeding trough. Now, the bread and butter of the child abuse industry is child physical abuse or battered child syndrome, first described 50 years ago in a seminal paper in JAMA, a paper that caused irreparable harm.

Do not expect this tragedy to be solved soon. Too many mouths are sucking at the trough. Also, the child’s father, the man who abandoned you and his child when you were two months pregnant, is he being paid to take care of his own child? I doubt child protection will tell you but I suspect he is being paid.
For almost 50 years, parents like you have either been sent to jail or had their child taken away or both; we are talking about hundreds of thousands of parents. It is all based on a simple observation loaded with face validity: children with lots of broken bones must have been beaten by someone. Now, it is quite possible that most of those hundreds of thousands of infants were never beaten, never abused, never mistreated, they were misdiagnosed, they simply had infantile rickets.

The US Government and its benevolent dictator Obama have firm plans to change the way we in America have lived for over 200 years. The Constitution, they call a living document has by that term been slain and laid to rest. The elected governing council called Congress has been deemed irrelevant by the Executive Branchs usurping power through the EPA, FCC, FDA and DHS to take control of everyones lives through regulation and not Constitutional law.

I was saddened to hear that Ernst Georg Beck died after a battle with cancer. I was flattered when he asked me to review one of his early papers on the historic pattern of atmospheric CO2 and its relationship to global warming. I was struck by the precision, detail and perceptiveness of his work and urged its publication. I also warned him about the personal attacks and unscientific challenges he could expect. On 6 November 2009 he wrote to me, “In Germany the situation is comparable to the times of medieval inquisition.”
Fortunately, he was not deterred. His friend Edgar Gartner explained Ernst’s contribution in his obituary. “Due to his immense specialized knowledge and his methodical severity Ernst very promptly noticed numerous inconsistencies in the statements of the Intergovernmental Penal on Climate Change IPCC. He considered the warming of the earth’s atmosphere as a result of a rise of the carbon dioxide content of the air of approximately 0.03 to 0.04 percent as impossible. And it doubted that the curve of the CO2 increase noted on the Hawaii volcano Mauna Loa since 1957/58 could be extrapolated linear back to the 19th century.” (This is a translation from the German)
I wrote about his work in three different articles for CanadaFreePress. His passing warrants a revisit, especially because of the exposure of corruption and malfeasance at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of East Anglia and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Beck’s work completely undermined their major claims and assumptions about the role of CO2 in Global Warming, then Climate Change and now Climate Disruptions.

Necessary To Make the Record Prove CO2 Caused Global warming
A key claim of the hypothesis known as anthropogenic global warming (AGW), is that human activities and particularly industry, are producing CO2 that is causing warming and climate change. There were critical points they had to establish to prove their case. As they did with almost all issues, they created the data they needed by manipulating modern and historic records or creating computer-generated results that became ‘real’ data.
They had to show that,
•Increases in atmospheric CO2 caused temperature increase in the historic record.
•Current levels are unusually high relative to the historic record.
•Current levels are much higher than pre-industrial levels.
•The differences between pre-industrial and current atmospheric levels are due to human additions of CO2 to the atmosphere.
Beck’s work showed the fallacy of these claims.
Early researchers knew of the existence of a large set of CO2 measures from the 19th century beginning in 1812. They were part of the drive to determine the constituents of the atmosphere. They became part of the manipulated climate science record with a 1983 Climatic Change article, “The pre-industrial carbon dioxide level.” Wigley was Director of the infamous Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia (UEA) before Phil Jones took over. Wigley began the decline of climate science but it was under Jones’ leadership that the malfeasance was arranged and fully exposed in the emails leaked on 20 November 2009. In the article Wigley established the pre-industrial level at approximately 270 ppm, even though readings ranged up to 600 ppm. It was necessary to agree with the outrageously selective work of G.S.Callendar (Figure 1) that showed a low pre-industrial level, but also a different slope to the trend.

Two other records were arranged to support the claims. One was the Antarctic ice core record, which showed a close relationship between CO2 and temperature. The other was the modern record from Mauna Loa in Hawaii.
The ice core record has several problems. There is contamination of the air in the bubble by water; different results are obtained if the ice is crushed or melted to obtain the air sample; it takes decades for the air bubble to form; the raw data was smoothed out by a 70 year moving average that removed the great annual variability found in the 19th century and Stomata Index (SI) records; closer examination revealed a major flaw in the hypothesis because temperature rises before CO2.
The Mauna Loa record is taken on a volcano where CO2 leaks from ground for many kilometers around. The process of data collection is patented and owned by the Keeling family and is modified to eliminate all “local effect”. This standardizing of the data is also applied to distribution of CO2 through the atmosphere. It is not evenly distributed at all as recent satellite data shows, yet that is the pattern built into the computer models.
Ernst Beck re-examined the 19th century data as his friend Gartner describes, “With his special meticulousness Beck collected and analysed thousands and thousands of older measurements of the CO2-content of the air and found out that such content has been sometimes higher than today in the first half of the 20th century and also partially in the 19th century.” He found the pre-industrial level little different from the current level, and the variability from year to year was much wider than the ice core and Mauna Loa record showed. He put all the data together in Figure 2.

It’s an axiom that the more someone is personally attacked and vilified, the higher likelihood their work is valid. We also know from the leaked emails the extent to which official climate science, controlled by the CRU people who also controlled the IPCC, worked to block publication of research that falsified their claims. One journal, Energy and Environment (E and E) showed integrity and courage led by its editor Sonja Boehmer-Christiansen, but was attacked by the CRU gang. On 28 October 2009 Phil Jones wrote to Hull University trying to stop Boehmer–Christiansen using her affiliation with that Institute. “You are probably aware of this, but the journal Sonja edits is at the very bottom of almost all climate scientists lists of journals to read.” Ironically, this is likely true because they didn’t want to read the truth. E and E published McIntrye and McKitrick’s first exposure of the hockey stick and Beck’s first major work on the 19th century record.

Unfortunately, Ernst could hardly defend himself in the last months because of its progressive illness.” His work, determination and ethics were all directed at answering questions in the skeptical method that is true science; the antithesis of the efforts of all those who challenged and tried to block or denigrate him. (NaturalNews) The news about Obama's health care reform just keeps getting worse -- and we only find these things long after the bill has passed, of course. The newest revelation concerns a 3.8% tax on income from home sales and home rentals which will go into effect in 2013. (Note: This story has been updated to clarify who the 3.8% tax impacts, see below.)
Depending on your income level, this could end up costing you thousands of dollars from the sale of a home (even if you're a middle-class income earner). It would also place a tax burden on all rental income from any home you might rent out to others.
How could this be? Because the new health care bill imposes a 3.8% tax on "unearned income" above a certain threshold (see below), which includes income from any source that you aren't directly working for. This includes interest you receive on a savings account, dividends from stocks, rental income from a property you own, social security income, unemployment checks, child support and of course income from home sales.
While this tax is supposed to be targeted to "the rich" with a threshold of $250,000 in unearned income, it can very easily hit middle-class income families who sell a house with a gain, forcing them to pay the 3.8% on a portion of their gain.
There is a lot of debate on the 'net about who this affects and exactly how this is calculated. That's actually part of the problem: Sorting out what the law actually says is a bit of an accounting nightmare. As Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it..."
As an article on Spokesman.com explains: "Middle-income people must pay the full tax even if they are 'rich' for only one day -- the day they sell their house and buy a new one."
For further clarification, see http://www.spokesman.com/stories/20... which states, "ObamaCare imposes a 3.8 percent annual tax on investment income of individuals making $200,000 or more and on families making $250,000 or more. The new tax is not indexed to inflation, so more people will fall under it each year. Seniors on fixed incomes and people with IRAs and 401(k) plans will be hit particularly hard."
And where is this money going? To pay for more sick care surgeries, pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy treatments, diabetes drugs, cholesterol drugs, mammograms and other virtually useless disease "treatments" that only enrich the medical industry while doing nothing to help real people.
There's never enough money to pay for disease
This 3.8% tax on unearned income from home sales and other sources is just the beginning, of course. You see, in a nation that has chosen to bet its future on a drugs-and-surgery approach to health care, there's never enough money to pay for disease.
Treating disease is wildly more expensive than preventing disease in the first place. But treatment is also wildly profitable, thrusting billions of dollars worth of profits into the hands of drug companies, cancer clinics and radiation machine manufacturers. The entire health care reform bill, it turns out, was designed to keep these dark, dangerous industries rolling in the dough while confiscating the money to pay for it all from U.S. homeowners, investors and social security recipients.
But if people will swallow 3.8%, why not raise it to 9%? Or 18%?
That's where this is headed because -- once again -- there's never enough money to pay for disease in a nation that refuses to legalize free speech about the scientifically proven benefits of nutrition and natural health products.
Mark my words: Unless America radically alters its approach to health care and starts focusing on HEALTH instead of disease "treatment," Big Government will only find new ways to confiscate more money from the people.
Remember, too, that this money is going into the hands of the super wealthy drug companies, cancer clinics and surgery centers of our nation. In effect, Big Government is confiscating money from the working poor and handing it over to the super rich while calling it "health care."
Meanwhile, those who actually decide to take care of their health and avoid diseases by making healthy choices in their lives are penalized the most! The more you work, save and invest, the more you're punished by the government. The only way to get a "free ride" is to stop working, stop taking care of yourself and just let everybody else pick up the bill for your sickness and poverty.
Destroying America's economy one tax at a time
The worst part about this 3.8% Medicare tax is that it punishes savings and investment. At a time when the national savings rate is less than zero and when people desperately need jobs, this is a devastating blow.
New jobs, you see, come from new businesses. And new businesses can only be funded from savings and investment. But if no one is saving money (or investing it), then there are no new companies. Hence, no new jobs, either.
To place the burden of a "sick care tax" on savings and investment in America is to suppress job creation at precisely the time when we need it most.
Confiscation to pay for sick care doesn't work in the long run
That Big Government now resorts to confiscating money from home sales and savings account income is a sign of its sheer desperation.
Trapped in a downward spiral of sick-care spending and bankruptcy, America's politicians haven't yet grasped the simplicity of a plan that would save lives, save money and save America's future: The natural health plan.

To really save America from sick care bankruptcy, somebody in Washington needs to:
• Repeal the ill-conceived health care reform bill
• Establish health freedom protections for herbs, vitamins, supplements and superfoods
• Dismantle or radically reform the FDA to end its tyranny over the natural products industry
• Outlaw dangerous food ingredients that promote disease (such as sodium nitrite, HFCS, partially-hydrogenated oils, etc.)
... and much more. Essentially, America needs to abandon the conventional medical system that isn't working and embrace holistic medicine which is cheaper (by far!), safer, more effective and even better for the environment.

(NaturalNews) The news about Obama's health care reform just keeps getting worse -- and we only find these things long after the bill has passed, of course. The newest revelation concerns a 3.8% tax on income from home sales and home rentals which will go into effect in 2013. (Note: This story has been updated to clarify who the 3.8% tax impacts, see below.)
Depending on your income level, this could end up costing you thousands of dollars from the sale of a home (even if you're a middle-class income earner). It would also place a tax burden on all rental income from any home you might rent out to others.
How could this be? Because the new health care bill imposes a 3.8% tax on "unearned income" above a certain threshold (see below), which includes income from any source that you aren't directly working for. This includes interest you receive on a savings account, dividends from stocks, rental income from a property you own, social security income, unemployment checks, child support and of course income from home sales.
While this tax is supposed to be targeted to "the rich" with a threshold of $250,000 in unearned income, it can very easily hit middle-class income families who sell a house with a gain, forcing them to pay the 3.8% on a portion of their gain.
There is a lot of debate on the 'net about who this affects and exactly how this is calculated. That's actually part of the problem: Sorting out what the law actually says is a bit of an accounting nightmare. As Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it..."
As an article on Spokesman.com explains: "Middle-income people must pay the full tax even if they are 'rich' for only one day -- the day they sell their house and buy a new one."
For further clarification, see http://www.spokesman.com/stories/20... which states, "ObamaCare imposes a 3.8 percent annual tax on investment income of individuals making $200,000 or more and on families making $250,000 or more. The new tax is not indexed to inflation, so more people will fall under it each year. Seniors on fixed incomes and people with IRAs and 401(k) plans will be hit particularly hard."
And where is this money going? To pay for more sick care surgeries, pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy treatments, diabetes drugs, cholesterol drugs, mammograms and other virtually useless disease "treatments" that only enrich the medical industry while doing nothing to help real people.
There's never enough money to pay for disease
This 3.8% tax on unearned income from home sales and other sources is just the beginning, of course. You see, in a nation that has chosen to bet its future on a drugs-and-surgery approach to health care, there's never enough money to pay for disease.
Treating disease is wildly more expensive than preventing disease in the first place. But treatment is also wildly profitable, thrusting billions of dollars worth of profits into the hands of drug companies, cancer clinics and radiation machine manufacturers. The entire health care reform bill, it turns out, was designed to keep these dark, dangerous industries rolling in the dough while confiscating the money to pay for it all from U.S. homeowners, investors and social security recipients.
But if people will swallow 3.8%, why not raise it to 9%? Or 18%?
That's where this is headed because -- once again -- there's never enough money to pay for disease in a nation that refuses to legalize free speech about the scientifically proven benefits of nutrition and natural health products.
Mark my words: Unless America radically alters its approach to health care and starts focusing on HEALTH instead of disease "treatment," Big Government will only find new ways to confiscate more money from the people.
Remember, too, that this money is going into the hands of the super wealthy drug companies, cancer clinics and surgery centers of our nation. In effect, Big Government is confiscating money from the working poor and handing it over to the super rich while calling it "health care."
Meanwhile, those who actually decide to take care of their health and avoid diseases by making healthy choices in their lives are penalized the most! The more you work, save and invest, the more you're punished by the government. The only way to get a "free ride" is to stop working, stop taking care of yourself and just let everybody else pick up the bill for your sickness and poverty.
Destroying America's economy one tax at a time
The worst part about this 3.8% Medicare tax is that it punishes savings and investment. At a time when the national savings rate is less than zero and when people desperately need jobs, this is a devastating blow.
New jobs, you see, come from new businesses. And new businesses can only be funded from savings and investment. But if no one is saving money (or investing it), then there are no new companies. Hence, no new jobs, either.
To place the burden of a "sick care tax" on savings and investment in America is to suppress job creation at precisely the time when we need it most.
Confiscation to pay for sick care doesn't work in the long run
That Big Government now resorts to confiscating money from home sales and savings account income is a sign of its sheer desperation.
Trapped in a downward spiral of sick-care spending and bankruptcy, America's politicians haven't yet grasped the simplicity of a plan that would save lives, save money and save America's future: The natural health plan.

To really save America from sick care bankruptcy, somebody in Washington needs to:
• Repeal the ill-conceived health care reform bill
• Establish health freedom protections for herbs, vitamins, supplements and superfoods
• Dismantle or radically reform the FDA to end its tyranny over the natural products industry
• Outlaw dangerous food ingredients that promote disease (such as sodium nitrite, HFCS, partially-hydrogenated oils, etc.)
... and much more. Essentially, America needs to abandon the conventional medical system that isn't working and embrace holistic medicine which is cheaper (by far!), safer, more effective and even better for the environment.
